NEGARA BRUNEI DARUSSALAM (The Country of Brunei, Abode of Peace). The size of Brunei is about 5,765km2 / 2,226 sq mi. Brunei is located on the Northwestern shores of the Island of Borneo, between longitudes 114’04’ and 114’23” East and latitudes 4’00” and 5’05” North. Brunei’s higest point is Bukit Pagon at 1,841 meters (6,136 feet) above sea level. Borneo is the 3rd largest island in the world after Greenland and New Guinea / Papua, and the only shared by three countries. Brunei climate is pleasant equatorial climate characterized by year round average temperatures raging from 23 degree Celsius to 33 degree Celsius, and rainfalls averaging 3.1 meters (124 inches) annually, with no distinct rainy season, although the month from October to January tend to bring heavier rains and stronger seas. Brunei population is about 400,000 with density 69 persons/km2 (179 persons/sq mi).Brunei language is Bahasa Melayu (Malay) is the official languages, but English is the language of business and is widely spoken at all levels. Brunei religion is Sunni Islam (Ahli Sunnah Wal Jama’ah) following the Shafei School of Islamic Law is the country’s official religion as enshrined in constitution. Brunei capital city is Bandar Seri Begawan (in the Brunei – Muara District), usually called Bandar or BSB.
