Entertainment

Cinemas
There are cinemas in various places around the country. The Mall Cineplex in Gadong, Bandar Seri Begawan is the best with its multiple screens. In Jerudong, the Empire Hotel & Country Club has the Empire Cinema, while nearby Seria has the OGDC Theatre (Oil & Gas Discovery Centre), and the Seri Qlap Cineplex is at Seri Q-Lap Mall in Kiulap.

Live musicThere is the odd live band but the lack of bars, pubs and clubs makes it tough to know where to look. Some of Bandar Seri Begawan’s large hotels have the odd live gig, while Jerudong Park, in the southwest of the country, sometimes puts on shows with local talent

Shopping
Shopping is the biggest deal in Brunei. There are several massive shopping malls in the capital city and other major cities, and most also come with a measure of entertainment. The YSHHB mall and the Tamu night market are the main places to shop in the capital, while the nearby mall in Gadong is also popular. Silverware and handmade baskets are popular items to buy.

Sporting eventsFootball, tennis, and golf are all big in Brunei and there are many sizeable tournaments held here throughout the year. Polo is especially popular, owing to the sultan’s love for horses. There are studs and polo grounds all over the country and facilities are usually top-notch owing to massive funding by the government

Theater and dance
Despite the country’s rich past, theater and dance in Brunei is limited and there is a distinct lack of cultural venues. Cinemas appeal to the average Bruneian, although the Radio Television Theater in Bandar plays host to the odd cultural show.

Transportation

Brunei is accessible by air, road and sea. Taxis, hire cars and buses are the most commonly used modes of transport to get around within Brunei. The purple minibus network is reliable and convenient but only in and around Bandar Seri Begawan. Private and public buses also operate between Bandar Seri Begawan and Kuala Belait, Sarawak (near Kuala Baram) and Seria.

Ferry and Water Taxi Services
One of the major tourists attractions in Brunei is the Water village, Kampong Ayer, the ‘Venice of the East’.
Water taxis are used to get around the village, which is located near the capital. Water taxi can be hailed from numerous ‘docking ports’ along the riverbanks of the Brunei Rivers and fares are negotiable.

Buses
There are six bus routes serving Bandar Seri Begawan, with buses running every 15 to 20 minutes. Fares start from B$1.00.

Car Rental
Self drive chauffeur-driven cars are available for hire from major hotels and the airport.

Taxi
Taxis are available at most hotels, shopping centres and the airport. In the capital, taxi are located at the Jalan Cator car park. Fares are not fixed and are usually negotiable.

Largely covered in luxuriant and pristine tropical rainforest rich in exotic flora and fauna, Brunei is paradise for nature lovers and for nature tourism in general.
Because of its small size and excellent road and tourist infrastructure, the best preserved rainforests in Borneo can be easily and safely discovered in day long trips from the comfort of international standards hotels ranging from tourist class inns to the regally opulent Empire Hotel and Country Club, or in overnight trips staying at comfortable lodges or boutique rainforest resorts, making the enriching experience of nature tourism in the tropics a much more approachable proposition for those who cherish comfort and safety.
With plenty of greenery, fresh and invigorating pollution free air, a healthy environment free of tropical disease, no traffic jams and one of the lowest crime rates in the world, Brunei is welcoming and rejuvenating experience.
Whether it is enjoying the bountiful nature, admiring the opulence of Brunei’s ancient monarchy, discovering the fascinating Water Village – the largest in the world – and thriving culture and traditions of the Malay people; or simply enjoying a world class round of golf, horse riding by the beach, being pampered in luxury at the spa of having fun with the family in our safe and wholesome environment, Brunei will reveal itself as a true Kingdom of Unexpected Treasures.
